The intestine is the part of the alimentary tract extending from the pyloric opening of the stomach to the anus. It is a musculomembranous tube lined with a secretory and absorptive mucosa. The intestine is involved in digestion and assimilation of nutrients, the extraction of moisture from the by-products of digestion, and the evaporation of the by-products into feces.
